All English-taught study programmes of the Faculty of Engineering are organised only in full-time form.
The student attends lectures, seminars, laboratories and exercises each semester for 12 weeks according to their study plan (except for the last semesters before the end of studies, which are ten weeks). The 12 weeks of classes are usually followed by a 5-week exam period in which students take the exams for that semester.
A unified credit system of study, the ECTS (European Credit Transfer System), is introduced at the CZU. The ECTS allows students to complete part of their studies abroad.
Organisation of studies
Studies at the Faculty of Engineering are governed by the "Study and Examination Regulations for Bachelor's and Master's Degree Programmes" and the study plans for a given academic year. The primary forms of teaching are lectures, exercises, seminars, excursions and internships. Each semester course concludes with credit or credit and an examination. Attendance at lectures is usually optional, while other forms of instruction are compulsory. According to the "Study and Examination Regulations...", students must take the prescribed credits and examinations in each academic year by mid-September (the exact date is specified in the timetable of the relevant academic year each year). The Bachelor's degree is concluded at the end of the 3rd year of study with the State Bachelor's degree examination, which includes a defence of the Bachelor's thesis and examinations in selected comprehensive subjects; successful graduates are awarded the degree of Bachelor (Bc.). The Master's studies are concluded with the State Final Examination, which consists of the defence of the thesis and passing examinations in comprehensive subjects. The graduate obtains the degree of engineer (Ing.), an equivalent to the MSc.
Doctoral studies at the Faculty of engineering are governed by the "Study and Examination Regulations for Doctoral Degrees Programmes" and the study plans for a given academic year.
The four-year doctoral study is based on the individual study plan approved by the supervisor at the beginning of the study. The study is research-based oriented, and a doctoral thesis defence completes it. The postgraduates are conferred the "doctor" academic degree abbreviated as a PhD.
Social and community background of students
A canteen at the university campus offers breakfast, lunch and dinner in three dining halls. Modern halls of residence are used to accommodate most students. There is no legal entitlement to accommodation in the CZU Halls of Residence; priority is given to students with more distant permanent residences. All students are provided with professional health care on the university campus. Several club rooms, computer rooms, video and audio rooms and social facilities with restaurant and cafeteria service are available for individual training and cultural and social activities. There are physical education facilities for sporting activities, two gyms, an indoor swimming pool, several ball fields, tennis courts, an athletic oval and a football field.
